Spotlight on Mindfulness Meditation by Izzy
Learning mindfulness meditation can improve your sleep! As most of us know, it is recommended that we get around 7-9 hours of good quality sleep each night! But how often is this true for you?
Recent studies have suggested that 67% of UK adults suffer from disrupted sleep and nearly 23% manage no more than five hours a night. Sleep deprivation is often associated with memory issues, difficulty concentrating, mood changes, weakened immunity, high blood pressure and an increased risk of heart disease.
We all know how good we feel after a good night’s sleep! Not only does it make us happier, but it also helps lower levels of stress and anxiety, improves digestion and may provide relief from aches and pains. A great way to improve both the duration of your sleep and also the quality is through learning mindfulness meditation.
Meditation enhances brainwaves that help us sleep, boosts levels of melatonin in the body (the sleep hormone) and triggers the relaxation response which lowers anxiety and helps us feel calm. Just 5 minutes of mindfulness meditation before you go to sleep each night may be just what you need in order to set up for a proper night’s rest!
